Read large numbers in groups of hundreds. The grouping order in English is as follows from most to least:

trillion
billion
million
thousand
hundred
tens

In British English, include 'and' between the hundred and the tens. In American English, do not use 'and' between the hundred and tens. Notice that hundred, thousand, etc. is NOT followed by an 's'.

British English

Example:

On the date of issue $421,000,000 has been given.

The money order was made out for six hundred and fifty-seven pounds.

Thousands

The remaining examples use American English.

Example:

There was a deficit of 10,815 after the balance sheet consolidation

The book value is $22,615.

Millions

234,700,000 - two hundred AND thirty-four million seven hundred thousand

American English

Example:

The futures are valued at $400,622,571.

The market value for her house is $450,000.
