Read large numbers in groups of hundreds. The grouping order in English is as follows from most to least:

trillion
billion
million
thousand
hundred
tens

In British English, include 'and' between the hundred and the tens. In American English, do not use 'and' between the hundred and tens. Notice that hundred, thousand, etc. is NOT followed by an 's'.

Two hundred NOT two hundreds

564 - five hundred sixty four

British English

Example:

584 - five hundred and eighty four

741 - seven hundred forty one

Thousands

The remaining examples use American English.

Example:

"48,954 - forty eight thousand nine hundred fifty four"

"77,535 - seventy seven thousand five hundred thirty five"

Millions

234,700,000 - two hundred AND thirty-four million seven hundred thousand

American English

Example:

"500,156,852 - five hundred one hundred fifty six thousand eight hundred fifty two"

"800,222,541 - eight hundred million two hundred twenty two thousand five hundred forty one"

Speaking About Numbers

Numbers are read in the following order in English

trillion, billion, million, thousand, hundred

Example:

2,350,400 => two million three hundred and fifty thousand four hundred
