Stating a Purpose
Infinitive of Purpose
When a verb is used to express the idea that an action is taken in order to do something else. Use the infinitive form to express a purpose. The alternate form 'in order to' can also be used in formal situations.
Example:
I drilled down into the code in order to find the bugs.
I dumbed down the interface in order to make the software more accessible.
I am developing this multitasking technique to increase my productivity.
I employed a dual boot in order to run both systems simultaneously.
The infinitive of purpose is a verb used to indicate the reason for the action taken.
