Infinitive of Purpose

When a verb is used to express the idea that an action is taken in order to do something else. Use the infinitive form to express a purpose. The alternate form 'in order to' can also be used in formal situations.

Example:

We are looking to emerging markets to provide us opportunities to grow.

We turned to the endowment to fund the project.

We disbanded the national policy-making body in order to take control ourselves.

We are squelching personal empowerment in order to maximize productivity.

The infinitive of purpose is a verb used to indicate the reason for the action taken.
