Verbs + Gerund
A number of verbs take the gerund, or 'ing' form when directly following another verb. Unfortunately, there are no rules as to which verbs take the infinitive and which verbs take the 'ing' or gerund form. Here is a list of common verbs which are always followed by the gerund, or 'ing' form.
Common Verbs + 'ing'
We include every ethnicity in our workforce as a goal for our company.
Phil loves watching the art of negotiation being applied.
Adverb + 'ing'
Any verb following an adverb takes the 'ing' form.
Slowly working with others, we found public support for our project."
Immediately remembering his charitable deduction, he finished his taxes."
