Read large numbers in groups of hundreds. The grouping order in English is as follows from most to least:

trillion
billion
million
thousand
hundred
tens

In British English, include 'and' between the hundred and the tens. In American English, do not use 'and' between the hundred and tens. Notice that hundred, thousand, etc. is NOT followed by an 's'.

Two hundred NOT two hundreds

386 - three hundred eighty six

321 - three hundred twenty one

British English

Example:

579 - five hundred seventy nine

542 - five hundred forty two

Thousands

The remaining examples use American English.

Example:

27,814 - twenty seven thousand eight hundred fourteen

91,456 - ninety one thousand four hundred fifty six

Millions

234,700,000 - two hundred AND thirty-four million seven hundred thousand

American English

Example:

900,154,789 - nine hundred million one hundred fifty four thousand seven hundred and eighty nine

600,825,747 - six hundred million eight hundred twenty five thousand seven hundred forty seven

Speaking About Numbers

Numbers are read in the following order in English

trillion, billion, million, thousand, hundred

Example:

2,350,400 => two million three hundred and fifty thousand four hundred
